Intermediate care—including bedside and central cardiac monitoring and invasive pressure monitoring—for patients with a primary cardiac diagnosis and patients who undergo cardiac procedures.

  • Angioplasty, stents, pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillators
  • Average length of stay: 2.4 days

Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • Day/Evening: 1:4
  • Night: 1:5
Rotation/Shifts
  • Self-scheduling; 8- and 12-hour shifts
Skill Mix
  • 92 percent RN; 8 percent clinical technicians
  • RN composite: 32 percent ADN/diploma; 64 percent BSN; 4 percent MSN
  • BLS, ACLS encouraged
Orientation
  • 10 weeks; includes clinical and classroom time in critical care
  • New Grads: SPRING program
