  • Support the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab (CVIL) by preparing patients for procedures and recovering patients post-procedure
  • Prep: patient teaching, pre-sedation assessment, starting IVs and on-site lab testing
  • Recovery: post-sedation monitoring, discharge teaching, sheath-pulling, admission of ambulance transfers, emergency situations

Patient Population

  • Adult and pediatric inpatients
  • Outpatients from cardiology, radiology and electrophysiology services
  • Ambulance transfers, as needed
  • Average length of stay: 2 to 4 hours
Number of Beds
  • 7 prep; 12 recovery
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • Day/Evening: 1:3-4
Rotation/Shifts
  • Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays
Skill Mix
  • 94 percent RN; 6 percent clinical associate
  • RN composite: 30 ADN/diploma; 57 percent BSN; 13 percent MSN
  • Required competencies: 2 years clinical experience; telemetry experience preferred
Orientation
  • 6 to 8 weeks including critical care core classes
  • New Grads: SPRING program
