Patient Population
  • Adult
  • Diagnoses include: DKA, sickle cell crisis, liver failure, pulmonary hypertension, GI bleed
  • Average length of stay: 5 days
Number of Beds
  • 15 (4 with ventilator; all monitored)
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • 1:3
Rotation/Shifts
  • 30-percent rotation to off-shift (evenings and/or nights)
Skill Mix
  • 95 percent RN; 75 percent BSN
  • ACLS preferred
Orientation
  • 10 weeks
  • Mentoring from unit-based clinical resource nurse
  • New Grad: SPRING program
