Intensive ambulatory support for the inpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Service (Weinberg 5A, 5B) and Hematologic Malignancy Service (Weinberg 5C) units—part of the IPOP continuum of care.


Patient Population
  • Adults with hematologic malignancies receiving allogeneic and autologous myeloablative hematopoetic stem cell transplants as well as allogeneic non-myeloablative stem cell transplants and other novel therapies
  • Adults with leukemias, lymphomas, Hodgkin’s disease and multiple myeloma
Number of Beds
  • 28 treatment spaces (chairs/beds)
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • Day: 1:4-6
  • Evening: 1:4-6
  • Night: rarely
Rotation/Shifts
  • 7 days a week; 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts available
Skill Mix
  • 75 percent RN; with clinical associate support
  • IPOP is staffed by nurses who rotate into the clinic from the hematologic inpatient units (Weinberg 5A, 5B, 5C)
  • Required competencies: provision of chemotherapy, blood and TPN administration skills, IV and PICC skills, critical care
Orientation
  • After at least 1 year of clinical inpatient experience:
  • 2 to 3 weeks with an experienced IPOP nurse on one of the hematologic inpatient units
  • Includes classroom and clinical experience
