Acute care for adolescents with varied acute and chronic medical/surgical diagnoses.


Patient Population
  • Ages 12 to 21
  • Medical diagnoses include sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, chronic and acute renal failure, neurological disorders
  • Surgical diagnoses include general, neurologic, cardiac, orthopedic and urologic  
Number of Beds
  • 24
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • 1:3-5
Rotation/Shifts
  • 8 and 12 hours
  • Flexible, self-schedule
Skill Mix
  • 90 percent RN, 90 percent BSN-prepared
  • 10 percent clinical associate
Orientation
  • 12 weeks, classes and practicum
  • New-grad PEDS internship with post-orientation mentoring
