High-quality postoperative care for patients undergoing gastrointestinal, plastic and oncologic surgery. We practice patient-centered care by allowing family members to room in and encouraging them to participate in care. We have a family lounge with educational resources and Internet access. Our unit has all private rooms.


Patient Population
  • Ages 18 and up
  • Diagnoses include pancreatic or liver cancer, GI surgery for both malignant and nonmalignant reasons, breast reconstruction and other inpatient plastic surgery
  • Average length of stay: 3 to 6 days

  • 18
Nurse/Patient Ratio
  • 1:4-6
Rotation/Shifts
  • 12 hours
  • Most staff rotate a.m. and p.m. shifts, with about 35 percent rotation to p.m. shifts
Skill Mix
  • 75 percent RN
  • 25 percent clinical associates
